What is now the Sybian was a twinkle in the eye of Dave Lampert, its inventor in the early 1970's. Over the next several years he kept working with the idea. In 1979 he contacted an engineer and two other specialists who quickly discouraged him, and he set it aside. In early 1983 Lampert presented the idea to a lady physician who encouraged him to pursue it further. That summer the project began in earnest, talking to anyone who had any knowledge of sexual devices. Over the next year-and-one-half books were read on the field of sex research and counseling. By the beginning of 1985 he had located a machine shop with the viewpoint "parts are parts," and they produced the first very crude prototype without knowing what they were making.

The housing was sheet metal supported by a wooden frame. Vibration was a regular hand vibrator through an opening in the housing. The principle behind rotation was not that different from what is used today. His second prototype had the same width and height as today's model but was nearly twice as long, weighing in at 51 pounds. Ensuing versions were a matter of packaging and detail refinements. Lampert describes himself as an idea person, a perfectionist by nature who likes to solve problems, not as an engineer or mechanically inclined.

"In retrospect I think one of the problems we had in the first few months was our own attitude" says Lampert. Concerned his work might be considered as pornographic, he feels his attitude showed up in the people he contacted. Once he realized that and started discussing it openly, he found great curiosity and that most people were very happy to be involved.

From the first prototype to the present product took three years with literally thousands of alterations and refinements. Some minor, and some very radical. Many dictated by mechanical necessity, and many the result of testing. Each time he observed the actions and reactions closely. Lampert intently listened to comments afterward. Parts underwent dozens of changes before the final shape was decided.

"Sybian is not the result of what I thought it should be, but the collective input of many women" say Lampert. It also needed a name. Calling it many things, in 1987 he finally settled on Sybian. The 'Syb' finding its roots in Sybaris, an ancient Greek city in southern Italy famous as a center of luxurious, opulent living.

Over the years he continues to be overwhelmed by enthusiastic responses of new owners, receiving many incredible, heartwarming stories. Mostly from women who seldom or never achieved orgasms with their partner, and have learned to do so. Specifications

Sybian's 'ponysaddle' housing weighs 22 pounds. Made of a resilient plastic, the external housing will withstand 1,000 pounds of pressure without failing. The housing with its formed finger holds is 13.25" wide and 12.5" long at the base. The height is 8 1/2" to the top of the padded Naugahyde cover, 10" overall.

It contains a quiet industrial 1/29 HP gear motor to provide a rotation adjustable from motionless to just over 2 revolutions inside the vagina per second for G-Spot stimulation. A second 1/17 HP motor for vibration produces approximately a 1/4" tremor underneath a woman along the ridgeline/crest of the saddle only. With a top speed over 100 strokes per second, this motion can be adjusted down to a stalling speed of around one clitoral stroke per second. Translated, this is inner and outer genital rubbing of just over two feet each second (in tiny 1/4" increments). Looking at the Sybian animation above and to the right it is best to prepare with adequate amounts of lubricant.

Each motor has independent, separately controlled on/off illuminated rocker switches along with very sensitive dials located in a hand held control box at the end of a 3' long cord. Greater cord lengths are available as special orders. Sybian functions using normal household electricity. It is available wired for 120v for US use, or 230v for export at the same price.
